Cheer Tryout Meeting for 2018-19(parent/guardian should attend!):
If you were unable to attend the Wednesday, March 21 WHS Cheer informaiton meeting, you can still pick up a tryout application packet in the main office of WHS.   Those who are interested in trying out should review ALL information in the packet very carefully with a parent or guardian as it contains details regarding tryouts, time commitment (a calendar of practices and other important events is included) and the financial commitment as well.  Please note, completed packets are due no later than 4 p.m. on April 6 (please turn in all required forms to main office)

IMPORTANT TRYOUT DATES:

 Friday, April 6th- Tryout application packets are DUE in the WHS main office

* Packets will be available to pick up at the tryout meeting and available online shortly thereafter

* Tryouts begin after Spring Break on Monday, April 16th

 

Tryout Practices (WHS Mat room):

Monday, April 16th - Practice (learn the dance):  5:00-7:00 pm

Tuesday, April 17th - Practice and interviews:  5:00 -7:00 pm

Wednesday, April 18th - Practice and interviews:  5:00 -7:00 pm

Thursday, April 19th - Practice and interviews:  5:00-7:00 pm

 

CHEER TRYOUTS

Monday, April 23th - tryouts begin at 5 pm in the WHS main gym

Safety Information

 

Requirements for tryouts:

*Attend practices during tryout week to earn participation points

*Interview with the coaches

*2.5 GPA

*Dance routine

*Cheer

*Tumbling (optional)

*Complete application packet turned into the WHS office by Friday April 6th

 

Attire:
*Please wear comfortable workout clothes and tennis shoes to all practices.

*On tryout day show your school spirit...please dress in WHS attire!

 

EXPECTATIONS:

As a Woodinville High School Cheerleader you are a representative of our school, our team and your coaches. A positive attitude, appropriate behavior and adhering to the athletic code are of the highest priority for squad members. Any behavior which reflects negatively on Woodinville High School or our cheer team will be dealt with severely. As a cheerleader you are expected to be respectful to all, work hard and represent yourself as a leader of our school. You will be required to maintain a 2.5 GPA in order to remain a member of the WHS cheer squad. Attendance at all events is mandatory, unless previously cleared with the coaches.

TIME COMMITMENT

Being a cheerleader is a very large time commitment. It is a year round commitment with many different activities to support and attend. Squad members may participate in one other sport as long as there is a balance between cheer and that sport. If you decide to join another team, this must be discussed and arranged prior to making another commitment. Inevitably, unanticipated conflicts will arise and can typically be worked out with the coaches. 

Below is a list of the general activities that you will be required to participate in. Of course, things do come up and this list is subject to change during the year, with additions possible and likely.

Spring:

*Attend meetings and practices until end of school year. Practices begin April 30 and will be every Monday through June 11 (5 - 7 p.m.).  There will also be some additional Thursday evening practices. 

Summer:

*Practices (mandatory) - week of July 9 - 13 from 9 a .m. to noon; week of August 13 - 17 from 9 a.m. to noon; week of August 20 - 24 from 9 a.m. to noon; August 27 and 30 from 5 - 7 p.m.


*Summer camp (mandatory) – July 16 - 20 @ Central Washington University 

‚Äč*Additional summer events include (additional events may be added to this list):  July 14  - car wash (fundraiser), August 15 & 16 - junior cheer clinic (fundraiser), August 18 - Woodinville Parade


School Year:

*Weekly practices – every Monday and possibly one additional practice if needed (typically Thursdays)
*Attendance at scheduled events: September – April
*Support for all sports in some way – schedules to be determined
*ASB class is encouraged for those who can fit it in their schedule
*Non-athletic events – there will be several you are expected to attend such as WHS Open House, Falcon Days,
Woodinville
April Parade, etc.
*Fundraising events (possibly on weekend) – such as cheer clinics for elementary students, car wash, etc

COST

The specific costs vary from year to year.   Fees include the following:

*Uniform (shell, sweater, skirt, briefs)
*Shoes
*Warm-ups
*Pom
poms
*Hair ribbons
*Camp gear (shorts, t-shirts)
*Camp tuition and fees

**Every item that you purchase will be yours to keep at the end of the season.
